expensive tastes

Yesterday I had a day off work as it is half term, and my sister came up for the day. And guess where we went? Fabric shopping! There is a great shop about half an hour away from us so we don't go that often but when we do we usually manage to spend quite a long time in there, and yesterday was no exception. I must admit I didn't find as many enticing things as I usually do, but Holly made up for it for me. She wanted to choose some fabric to make something with, and she went straight for the liberty cord. Little miss expensive tastes! So we got half a metre of the lovely fabric above, which one day soon we will try and transform into a cat. We haven't had such an exciting day together today as the weather has been wet and miserable, but I did give Holly lots of laughs playing the wii game 'just dance' with her. Apparently I looked like a chicken, but never mind, it was fun! There was also time for a spot of sewing, my first ever red box this time, available here! : )

Hooray for fabric shopping, expensive tastes, and beautiful hand-sewn red boxes! All make my heart glad.

I love that liberty cord, I used some of that in a quilt (that still isn't quilted) for my daughter. It's soooooooo soft, isn't it?

Love the red box too - but then again, red is my favourite colour!

such nice detailing on your pieces...i assume that is hand stitched? i remember my grandmother teaching me to make smaller and smaller stitches with my needle and thread until they were—almost—as nice and tight as hers (and yours!)

Molly has a good eye for fabric I think! Making a cat is a lovely idea too. Sophie came to may sewing group tonight and we made a bag. She only goes during school holidays and has not been since last August. She made most of the bag this time and stuck at it for about 2+ hours! She even threaded up the sewing machine and I have not shown her that for months. If she can do it why do my students claim that they can not?

Opps sorry, I meant Holly not Molly. Sophie visited a friend called Molly today and kept calling her Milly. So I have been correcting Sophie and clearly have Molly's name on the brain now, sorry.

Loving your red box, so cute! And that fabric is divine, I haven't been new fabric shopping (as opposed to op shopping), for sooooooo long and the local shop is having a sale, you have inspired me to go and have a look. X

I like the coral and red together in that box and the fabric she picked out is wonderful. So happy! Hee, hee- so she thinks you dance like a chicken. Sounds like a blast and if you can get her to laugh, all the better.
