happy and sad

Today I am sad because we are having two trees chopped down in our garden. I have resisted this for the whole three years we have lived in this house, but I have come round now (almost) to the fact that it needs to be done. You can see the two trees in this photo, the one in the foreground I don't mind losing as it is too close to the house and blocks a lot of light. But the pear tree at the back I will be very sad to see go, there were orchards here before our house which makes me think that it is older than the house, which was built in 1882. But the problem is because it is a pear tree, in the summer it gets surrounded by wasps which stops us all going out in the garden. And the two people we have had round to give us advice on it have said that it is way past its best and has lots of dead wood. We will be planting a new tree in its place, but today I will be feeling sad for this beautiful old tree. The silver lining is that my sofa is arriving today, and just look at Holly in her new 'glasses'! : ( : )

Oh, a pear. that is a little sad :(

we had 3 trees cut down this year. a eucalyptus and silver birch were too close to a protected ash and a cherry which was slowly falling over onto the neighbours shed :(

Choose a nice lovely new tree! :)

Happy weekend.x

The third photo of the tree is a really nice shot! Your garden is going to be incredibly spacious once they're cut down though, but it's a shame that it's a pear tree.

It's always sad to say goodbye to old trees...but sometimes it's just that their time is up. Nature can be cruel. But hey a new sofa is fun! & that cute photo of Holly is enough to cheer anyone up :)

It's hard to take down trees, but safety comes first and you will actually enjoy your garden more if you can be in it!

What kind of tree will you be planting?

It is sad to see the trees go. I had to cut a fir tree that was next to the house and it was very sad. What is nice, you will be planting a new tree..and you have that sofa coming..

Oh...I can see why it took you three years to make this decision.

So sorry about the trees, a shame indeed, but sometimes it must be done. We have two ancient magnolia's in our front yard that will need to be removed soon for fear they are choking the sewer lines with their roots, it will be a sad day for certain. :(

Love the new glasses Holly!!

We had a couple of trees removed last year and although it was a hard choice it was ultimately best for the house and yard. Now many other plants and trees are thriving. I bet you will be so happy to have the extra light in your house. Your property looks lovely!

I am sorry about your tree. It is always sad, but sometimes necessary for safety. Now you can nurture your new tree, and watch it grow along with your family, and that will be very joyful!

She's probably had a full and productive life, lovely creature. You will be able to enjoy your yard year round now and I'm sure you will think of her each time you sit in the summer sun.

I am sad for your tree too, but I think it sounds like you need to let it go to rest to make room for the next generation. I know how long it takes to grow trees, but at least you will have a vision for the future. I have young trees in my garden and it is very hard to be patient, but think of all the other things you can grow with more light and sun. Great timing with the new sofa to soften the blow. oh, and cute glasses!

Oh! I very much understand the sadness of loosing a tree, almost any tree. I don't even quite understand the attachment, but it's very real, and very keen. I'm glad you took pictures of them!

Also, those glasses are spectacular!

So sorry to hear about your trees. I hope you can find some beautiful ones to replace them. Oh and Holly looks stunning in her new glasses. B)

yep..i can fully understand. I chopped off my bamboo trees (we had 6 in total) as it was way too bushy (good for filtering the hot sun though), but we had to spend a lot of time cleaning up the dried leaves. Let's plant some other trees :) and a pear tree? that's one I havent seen here.
